We headed off right after music class for the picnic organised by the FGA Support Group for Parents of Children with Special Needs at Bukit Lagong Forest Reserve. A bit off the beaten track but luckily had a satnav & a map from the organisers.
By the time we got there, the rest of the families were enjoying themselves at the waterfall & wading area at the river. I had missed the turning in the forest reserve (satnav tracked it as being off-road) and ended up at the Orang Asli Village. When I got down to ask for directions at the 1st kampung house, I was chased by a pack of young dogs. Scary. Thank goodness they weren't vicious cos I was carrying my son with me!
He is still afraid of waterfalls & rivers. Even though it was a very small & low waterfall with a big wide wading area & many kids with their parents in the water, he still protested. I walked down the stairs carrying him, to the edge of the pool to say hi to one of the parents & he almost burst out crying. I partly expected this & wasnt going to force him.
So, we drove up to the animal farm instead. He was happy that he was going to see bunny rabbits. The goat's pen was nearest the car park, so we headed there. Before we even got to the stairs to go up to the pen, the smell of their poo was awful. So awful that my son vomitted!
Then headed to a shady area with tables & chairs set up for us. It was time for his lunch. He was entertained by the monkey in a cage & the 3 huge turkeys roaming freely. But when the winds picked up & blew the wrong direction, the awful smell caused him to vomit again! After the 3rd time it happened, we moved to a wooden rest area further away. But by then, he didnt want to eat anymore, nor drink his milk. Lost appetite perhaps? So, headed back as I was concerned he wasn't getting enough liquids (very hot weather, risk of dehydration) and it was very close to his nap time anyway.
I wasn't expecting much from this trip. Just wanted him to be exposed to a non-urban environment; to slowly desensitize him to waterfalls/rivers; to be in a group setting with other families. On my part, I just wanted to be able to socialise, even though it was only for a few minutes with others who are able to relate & to enjoy greener peaceful surroundings. The bonus was that he got to see, smell, hear real turkeys! He was highly amused by the sounds the turkeys made. Didnt have chance to take more photos cos we were there for only a short time (1 hr) & was taking care of him.
